A former bank is now a trendy Brasserie in Vienna

A former bank transformed into a trendy restaurant in Vienna’s golden quarter. When we visited Vienna this summer we came across this beautiful and trendy restaurant Brasserie The Bank.

The building that houses The Bank Brasserie & Bar is steeped in history like no other. The Am Hof address has always been one of the most historically significant locations in the city. The Imperial Royal Ministry of War was demolished, between 1913 and 1915.

It was Vienna’s first reinforced concrete building with a classical façade. It was opened as the headquarters of the Escompte-Gesellschaft from Lower Austria. A major bank in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Most recently, the building served as the head office of Bank Austria UniCredit. Today the building is known as Park Hyatt Vienna, which opened in 2014.

The menu is as it should be for a Brasserie, from Seafood platter to sandwiches and a diverse off grill specialties. I can recommend you the lobster sandwich with the Belgian fries as a side dish accompanied by a glass of champagne.

A beautiful ambiance with chilled music in the background has made this place a tranquil haven in the middle of a buzzing city.

The beautiful accents of this historic building have been carefully kept and adjust to this century without losing its appearance.

The interior design was managed by the Dutch designer duo FG stijl, alongside the modern furniture and materials. They also incorporated Austrian art nouveau (Jugendstil) elements by quoting from Wiener Werkstätte designs. You can find them in the rooms as a homage to that great period in the history of Vienna.

The open kitchen is a pleasure to look at and you notice that the staff is very pleased to work in such a beautiful environment.

A drink in the bar for or after dinner is a must. They have a huge range of cocktails and a very professional staff who are very happy to create your favorite drink. We had a great evening and would like to come back anytime!
